Why Is My Water Heater Not Heating Water?

Why Is My Water Heater Not Heating Water?

A standard 50-gallon electric water heater requires approximately 60 to 90 minutes to heat water from ambient temperature (approx. 72°F in Hawaii) up to the standard recommended 120°F setpoint.

Water heaters operate on high-voltage 240V electricity that poses severe shock and electrocution hazards. Furthermore, elements must never be powered when dry (dry-fired). Having a licensed plumber replace elements ensures electrical safety and proper seal torque.

Rotten egg sulfur odors occur when anaerobic bacteria in the water react with the standard magnesium sacrificial anode rod inside the tank. Replacing the magnesium rod with an aluminum-zinc or powered titanium anode rod eliminates sulfur odor permanently.
